"Kind of Blue" Solo Exhibition
From February 8th to March 5th, 2024, Giedrė Mockeliūnaitė presented her first solo exhibition, "Kind of Blue," at the extraordinary Aludariai Story Cellar in Vilnius, Lithuania. The venue, with its rich history and acoustics ideal for live jazz performances, perfectly matched the exhibition's theme, inspired by Giedrė's profound admiration for legendary jazz musician Miles Davis. The setting added depth to the sensory experience, echoing the improvisational spirit of jazz that influenced her work.
The exhibition featured nearly 30 paintings, and its private opening attracted an impressive audience of Lithuania’s finest artists, including film and theatre directors, painters, and musicians, before it was later opened to the public.
At the heart of the exhibition was "Miles," a striking homage to Miles Davis, framed in glass and displayed separately as a focal piece. Another standout work, "Blues Nr1," was installed in the center of the room, symbolizing the start of Giedrė’s exploration into her blue series, a tribute to her love for jazz and Davis' influence on her creative journey.
"Miles Davis taught me that music is not just sound; it’s an emotion that transcends boundaries. In my art, I strive to capture that same spirit—where each brushstroke dances to the rhythm of melody, creating a powerful synergy between music and painting. This connection is essential in art, allowing us to explore the depths of our imagination and evoke feelings that words alone cannot express." says Giedrė Mockeliūnaitė
